DIY Repair for Wyze Cam v4 Micro-USB Connector

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with repairing my Wyze Cam v4 after a mishap with the Micro-USB connector. I hope this might help someone else who finds themselves in a similar situation!

So, the story starts with me trying to upgrade from the Wyze Cam v3 to the v4. It was nighttime, and in my haste, I didn’t realize the Micro-USB connector wasn’t oriented correctly. I ended up bending one of the pins, which rendered the camera unusable. At first, I was pretty frustrated, but then I remembered seeing a post about a similar issue with the v3. The solution involved cutting the cable and splicing in a pigtail connector. I decided to give it a try!

Here’s what I did:

  1. Cutting the casing: I used a utility knife to carefully cut around the casing and expose the connector. This required a bit of precision to avoid damaging the underlying wires.
  2. Removing the plastic casing: With a small screwdriver, I pried up the plastic casing and peeled it back to access the connector.
  3. Exposing the wires: I had to make a few more cuts to fully expose all the wires. This was a bit nerve-wracking, but I took my time to ensure I didn’t damage any of them.
  4. Replacing the connector: I found a compatible connector on Amazon and carefully soldered it in place. I made sure to test each connection to ensure everything was working properly.

After a bit of trial and error, the camera is now up and running again! It was a challenging project, but it gave me a great sense of accomplishment. I even took pictures throughout the process and made a collage to document the repair, in case anyone else wants to tackle this DIY fix.

If you’re considering this repair, my advice is to take it slow and be patient. It’s definitely a learning experience, but it can save you the hassle of buying a new camera. Plus, it’s satisfying to bring something back to life that you thought was broken for good!

I’ll be updating this post once I receive the replacement connector and finalize the repair. In the meantime, I’m thrilled to have my Wyze Cam v4 back in action!

Cheers,
