DIY Smart Home Energy Monitoring Setup

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my recent DIY project where I set up a smart home energy monitoring system. It’s been a fantastic journey, and I’d love to hear if anyone else has tried something similar or has tips to improve my setup.I started with a basic DIY BKW system with a battery storage unit, using Trucki components. Everything has been running smoothly, and I’m super happy with the results. However, with the arrival of two new Etron cars in early 2026, I wanted to ensure that my home’s energy autonomy remained intact while also optimizing the cost of charging these vehicles. To achieve this, I decided to install a separate power line in the garage, equipped with Shelly 3EM devices. These devices would act as a secondary power source within my E-Dashboard setup. My main concern was maintaining the clarity of my home’s energy consumption without introducing massive peak loads from the cars. I was curious to see how this dual-power setup would reflect in my monthly energy overview, especially with two separate power sources. After some research and setup, I managed to integrate everything seamlessly. The Shelly 3EM devices provided real-time monitoring of the garage’s energy consumption, allowing me to track how much energy was being used for charging versus other household activities. It’s been enlightening to see the data visualization, which helps me make informed decisions about energy usage.I’d love to hear from anyone who has implemented a similar system. How did you manage your energy monitoring with multiple power sources? Did you encounter any challenges, and how did you overcome them? Any insights or tips would be greatly appreciated!Looking forward to your thoughts and experiences. Let’s keep the DIY spirit alive! :rocket::sparkles:
