I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of a fully automated home, and after spending the past few months working on my smart lighting setup, I’m thrilled to share my experience! 
It all started with a simple goal: to create a lighting system that adapts to my daily routine and enhances the ambiance of my home. I began by researching different smart lighting options and decided to go with a combination of Philips Hue and Govee RGBIC strips. The Philips Hue for their reliability and the Govee for their vibrant colors and affordable price.
The first challenge was figuring out how to schedule the lights independently. I wanted my bedroom lights to dim softly at sunset while the living room lights stay bright for evening activities. After some trial and error with routines, I managed to set up a system where each room’s lighting adjusts based on time and occupancy sensors. It was a bit tricky at first, but the satisfaction of seeing everything work seamlessly made it all worth it!
One feature I’m particularly excited about is the color-changing functionality. I programmed the lights to shift through different hues during the day, creating a dynamic atmosphere. For instance, warm tones in the evening help wind down, while cooler tones in the morning simulate natural light to help me wake up. The Govee strips also added a fun element with their strobe effect, perfect for parties or just adding some excitement to movie nights!
I also experimented with using voice commands to control the lights. It’s amazing how convenient it is to adjust the lighting with just a simple voice command. Whether I’m relaxing on the couch or entertaining guests, the lights are always at my command.
This project has been a fantastic learning experience, and I can’t recommend it enough to anyone looking to dip their toes into smart home automation.
