I’m thrilled to share my recent DIY smart sliding door project success!
After weeks of research and planning, I finally brought my vision to life using easily accessible components and a bit of creativity. I wanted to create a seamless smart lock system for my patio door, and I’m beyond excited with how it turned out.The project started with identifying the right components. I went with a Z-Wave in-wall switch, a magnetic access control lock, and an Iris keypad for convenience. The setup was surprisingly straightforward once I had all the parts on hand. I even added a weatherproof enclosure to ensure everything stays protected outdoors. One of the key challenges was ensuring seamless integration with my SmartThings ecosystem. Thanks to @zcorneli’s Iris keypad driver and @bamarayne’s Keypad Coordinator app, the system works like a charm. It’s incredible how these tools allow me to control my door lock directly from the SmartThings app or via voice commands.I also wanted to highlight the importance of proper wiring and enclosure installation. Taking the time to spray paint the components to match my door frame really pulled the whole look together. It’s those small details that make a DIY project feel polished and professional. This project has been a fantastic learning experience, and I’m already brainstorming ways to expand it further. I’d love to hear how others have tackled similar smart home projects or if anyone has tips for adding additional features like automated lighting or notifications when the door is opened.A huge shoutout to the entire SmartThings community for the wealth of resources and support available. Without your shared knowledge and expertise, this project wouldn’t have been possible. Here’s to many more smart home adventures! ![]()
