This Valentine’s Day, I decided to take my home automation skills to the next level by creating a DIY project that combines love and technology. My goal was to automate my living room lights and music system to create a romantic ambiance with just the press of a button. While the idea was simple, the execution turned out to be a bit more challenging than I anticipated.
First, I started by setting up a scene in my smart home app that would dim the lights and play a playlist of romantic songs. I used my Amazon Echo to control everything, which worked seamlessly. However, I encountered an unexpected issue with my NEXA units, which started working intermittently. After some research, I discovered that restarting the devices temporarily fixed the problem, but it kept recurring. I reached out to the community for advice, and someone suggested checking the firmware updates for my devices. Turns out, my NEXA units were running an outdated version, and updating them solved the issue!
Another challenge I faced was integrating my Google Assistant with the new setup. Initially, it was unreliable, only working about 30% of the time. I tried troubleshooting by resetting the integration and reconfiguring everything from scratch. After some time and with the help of community forums, I managed to get it working smoothly.
One of the highlights of this project was discovering the Govee RGBIC LED strips. They were perfect for creating the ambiance I wanted, and the app control made it easy to adjust the colors and brightness. I even set up a daily power cycle for the strips to prevent any connection issues, which worked like a charm.
Reflecting on this project, I’m proud of how far I’ve come with home automation. It’s amazing how a little creativity and the support of a great community can turn a simple idea into something truly special. I can’t wait to see what I’ll tackle next! ![]()
