DIY Zigbee LED Strips - My Successful Experience!

Hello everyone, I wanted to share my recent DIY project with Zigbee RGB LED strips. After some research and experimentation, I successfully created a custom setup that fits perfectly into my smart home ecosystem. Here’s how I did it and some tips for anyone considering a similar project.

Project Overview:
I aimed to create a 36-inch LED strip setup for my bathroom, with three 14-inch LED sections separated by 20-inch cable runs. The goal was to have a sleek, integrated lighting solution that could be controlled via my Zigbee hub.

Challenges and Solutions:

  1. Cable Management: I initially struggled with the cable lengths but found that using heat-shrink tubing and waterproof connectors made the setup much neater and more reliable.
  2. Power Supply: Ensuring a stable power supply was crucial. I opted for a 12V DC adapter with a built-in dimmer, which provided consistent power and easy brightness adjustment.
  3. Firmware Updates: After installation, I noticed some flickering issues. Updating the Zigbee firmware on my hub and the LED strips resolved this, ensuring smooth operation.

Tips for Others:

  • Measure Twice, Cut Once: Accurate measurements saved me from several potential mistakes.
  • Use Quality Components: Investing in good connectors and cables made a significant difference in the overall durability.
  • Test Before Installation: I recommend testing the strip in a controlled environment before final installation to catch any issues early.

Final Thoughts:
This project was a great learning experience and has added a fantastic touch to my home. If anyone has questions or needs advice, feel free to reach out! Happy DIY-ing! :rocket:
