I want the aquara window sensor but only have an other brands ZigBee gateway. Will they work?
I use mine with a sonoff zigbee stick and zigbee2MQTT and they work perfectly fine!
Yes I currently have all my Aqara zigbee devices connected directly through home assistant with the SONOFF zigbee stick. None of them are connected to the hub in any way.
Out of interest what is Aqara’s line on 3rd party Zigbee Hubs? Do they consider it hacking? Are they okay with it being discussed openly on the forums?
Yes, you can check compatibility here: Database of Zigbee devices compatible with ZHA, Tasmota, Zigbee2MQTT, deCONZ, ZiGate and ioBroker or Zigbee2MQTT
As far as I know it’s a widely accepted. There’s constant updates happening to devices adding additional support when connected to 3rd party systems.
Ok. Thanks for the many responses
Zigbee2mqtt works well. I use it with a sonoff zigbee coordinator.
Hi @richtna42 it’s better to use aqara hub for better compatibility and accessibility of settings, but it will work with some other universal hubs too
They do not work with other brands like Philips, but they work with general zigbee hubs like the Conbee 2 or 3.
I tried to pair an Aqara shortcut button with an IKEA Dirigrera hub and although it did pair, it kept giving an offline status. I ended up buying a M100 hub as it’s fairly cheap so that I can use more shortcut buttons and pair the Aqara Matter devices with the app
I gotta go through and make the transition to MQTT! On my to do list lol. Do you find a real difference in device response time?
Never had Aqara hub, but zigbee2mqtt is instant
Yes! with home assistant it works like a charm, it will discover the devices as zigbee devices and they keep most of the functionality although I would still recommend to use the Aqara hubs as most big devices are hubs and then use the app integration so you can have the best of both worlds
Aqara products have great interporality with many platforms, the ideal is to look at guides if they are compatible with the one you want and if not, you can always try it. Sometimes some list may not be quite up to date.
