Does the system work with Google.home?

I am new to the ecosystem and im finding the automations a bit of a challenge, for example im trying to use geo location to turn on and off my camera when it detects me in the area. Ive expected the range as other suggested and it works sometimes and not other times.

I have tried to enable the gesture in ai, like some suggested trying, but even when gesture is enabled i canf find it in the trigger on automation or scenes.

Now I’ve been trying to link it to Google home and again, it links, but doesnt add correctly, so i cant even setup the “im home” automation command to.disable the cameras.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

@dylan8 Geolocation + camera control can be a little finicky at first, so you’re not alone. A few things to check/try:

1) Geofencing reliability (why it works “sometimes”)

In Aqara Home, geofencing automations are triggered only by the phone that created the automation (it’s based on that phone’s system-reported location / IP). So if you’re expecting another family member’s phone (or even a second phone on the same account) to trigger the same automation, it won’t—each phone needs its own geofence automation set up on that device.

Also, to reduce “I’m already home but it didn’t trigger yet” delays (OS + network delays), set the geofence radius to 500m+. If you want it to fire earlier/later, place the geofence on your route instead of right on top of your home.

Where to set it: Automation → IF → Reach/Leave a location → (then your camera action, or Alert System arm/disarm if you’re using that).

2) Gesture trigger not showing up

Only certain camera models expose “gesture detected” as an automation condition. For example, Camera Hub G3 includes Gesture detected as a valid trigger condition in automations.
And there’s even a common recipe like: When Camera detects the gesture → turn on/off a switch (G3 + Wall Switch).

If you’re on a different model (e.g., G2H / G2H Pro), their automation conditions list doesn’t include gesture triggers—so you won’t see it in the “IF” options even if you see AI settings in the camera page.

If you are using a G3 and gesture recognition still doesn’t work reliably, typical fixes are: update the app, toggle the gesture feature off/on, check single vs dual gesture mode + detection time, ensure you’re within ~5m, and power-cycle the camera.

3) Google Home linking but devices don’t add correctly

Your “links but doesn’t add correctly” issue sounds like an account/device sync problem on the Google Home side, and I don’t have solid reference steps for that from the info here. You seem to be experiencing an issue with linking Aqara to Google Home where devices don’t import properly, blocking Home/Away-style camera control.

I had to go back and look for your old thread first so I could understand exactly what this is about and which devices are involved.

Have you also tried expanding the geofence area to see if that might make it work better? Where exactly did you set it up? If you let us know, we’d be happy to help you.

@gafich10 already explained to you how to set up gestures in the Aqara app. Did you do that in the Aqara app? Or where exactly are you having trouble?

Thank you for your response, I am testing a larger geo-area, I have also changed the battery settings under the Aqara app to unlimited. Lets see how I go. I am using the G3, but even when Gesture is enabled, I don’t see it in the automation options

@dylan8 If you’re on a Camera Hub G3, you should see “Gesture detected” available as an automation IF condition—so if it’s missing, it’s usually down to app/feature state rather than the hardware itself. The G3 does support Gesture detected as an automation condition.

A few things to try that commonly bring the trigger back:

  1. Update Aqara Home App + check G3 firmware
  • Gesture automation exposure can be picky if either side is behind. (Start with the obvious, since it’s the quickest win.)
  1. Toggle Gesture Recognition off/on inside the camera settings
  • Even if it shows enabled, flip it off → on to force the feature to re-register.
  1. Verify gesture mode + detection window
  • In the gesture settings, confirm whether it’s set to single vs dual gesture, and that your detection time is within the period you’re testing.
  1. Sanity-check the practical detection limits
  • Test within the supported range (roughly within 5 meters) and within the specified time window.
  1. Power-cycle the G3
  • Unplug it for a moment and restart—this often clears “feature enabled but not exposed to automations” oddities.

Also, once it appears, note that the G3’s automation actions include things like Enable/Disable gesture recognition and other AI toggles—so you can build automations that turn gesture recognition on only when you want it.
