Hello fellow Smart Homies!
I’m highly interested in using either P1 or P2 door and window sensors.
However, the local conditions do not allow me to mount the magnet on top of the window sash and the sensor above it on the window frame, for example, as I had planned!
The only option I can see would be to attach the magnet to the left-hand sash and the sensor to the right-hand sash.
Unfortunately, in this case there is an air gap of 35 mm to overcome, which is too large for the magnets supplied.
The only solution I can think of is to use a stronger bar magnet, or am I completely wrong? In the event that my train of thought is correct, I have the following questions:
- was the housing of the included bar magnet glued, or just clipped together
- What are the technical data of the magnet (dimensions, holding force)?

@memseeker Hello there!
It’s fantastic to see your interest in the Aqara Door and Window Sensors. Let’s dive into your questions and see how best we can address them.
From the reference information we have, it seems there might be a challenge with the air gap you mentioned. The default installation distance between the sensor and magnet for both the Aqara Door and Window Sensor and its variants (T1 and P2) should be less than 22 mm. Unfortunately, a 35 mm gap exceeds this limit, which could indeed present connectivity issues.
As for your idea of using a stronger bar magnet, it’s a creative approach! However, there’s no specific information available regarding the technical data of the magnet (such as dimensions or holding force) or whether the housing is glued or clipped. This might require some experimentation on your part.
Given the detailed nature of your setup and the specific requirements, I would recommend reaching out to the community or Aqara’s customer service for further advice.
