We have added door sensors to our windows which we use for both security and alerts when it is raining, but where we took it to the next level is by adding them to our blinds.
This allows me to know if the blind is open on the side of the house when the sun is beating down on a hot day, and use it to alert the family that it would be a good idea to shut the blind.
This has helped save use (and our air conditioner) from some swealtering nights.
