Doorbell spamming

I’ve the Doorbell G4 installed. Every visitor presses multiple times as the outdoor unit does not chime.

Please, could you update the firmware so the outdoor unit makes the doorbell chime when the button is pressed?

@bq301 I understand that you’re experiencing an issue where the Doorbell G4’s outdoor unit does not chime when pressed, causing visitors to press multiple times. According to the reference information, the G4 doorbell relies on its chime repeater for sound. If the chime is not working, it could be due to the doorbell being offline from the chime. Here’s what you can try:

  1. Check Connection: Ensure that the distance between the doorbell and the chime repeater is within 5 meters and check for any potential Wi-Fi interference.
  2. Restart the System: Cut off the power to the doorbell and then restore it. Try pressing the doorbell again to see if it triggers the chime.
  3. Check DND Mode: If the Do Not Disturb (DND) mode is enabled, the chime will not ring. You can disable this mode in the settings.
  4. Firmware and Settings: Currently, the firmware does not support chime from the outdoor unit directly. For any updates or changes, please ensure your device firmware is up-to-date and keep an eye on future firmware releases for enhancements.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, feel free to reach out to Aqara customer service for further assistance. Your feedback is valuable and can help improve future updates. Let’s keep the discussion going to find a better solution together!

You don’t understand the issue. The repeater is somewhere inside the house so we can hear it. People ringing the doorbell need an audible chime for feedback that the button worked. They don’t realize that when hitting the button repeatedly its annoying inside the house. Theres already a speaker in the outside unit, please have the firmware updated so we can chose some sound to play.

@irishn8 Thank you for clarifying the concern—this is a very valid point and a great suggestion for user experience improvement! Currently, the Smart Video Doorbell G4 is designed so that pressing the doorbell button triggers the chime repeater inside the house, but there isn’t an audible chime or sound from the outdoor unit itself to provide immediate feedback for the visitor. As you mentioned, this can lead to visitors pressing the button multiple times, unaware that the doorbell has successfully rung, which can certainly be disruptive.

At present, the firmware does not support playing a sound from the outdoor unit’s built-in speaker when the button is pressed. Your request for a selectable outdoor chime is a thoughtful one and would certainly enhance the experience for both visitors and residents.

While there is no reference indicating that this feature is currently planned or available, your feedback is incredibly valuable. I encourage everyone in the community to share their thoughts or workarounds, and I’ll make sure this suggestion is flagged for the product team. Let’s keep this discussion going—community input often drives the best improvements!

You just need to add an automation so that when the button is pressed it plays a sound of your choice on the doorbell speaker.
I have recorded my own message to play outside.

Just ignore the 2 status devices as they are just part of my personal automation

THANK YOU LOSTBOYRADIO! This has been driving me mad as guests have no feedback when the doorbell is pressed which means they press it again… and again… and again. Your Automation has just made this disappear! Kudos my friend!

This has been one of my biggest frustrations with the G4 as well. Visitors keep pressing multiple times because there’s no feedback outside. I agree with others here — the hardware already has a speaker, so it really seems like a firmware update could allow a simple chime or tone when the button is pressed.

Big thanks to @lostboyradio for sharing the automation workaround — I just tried it, and it makes a huge difference! Still, it would be great if Aqara could add this as a built-in option so we don’t have to rely on custom setups.
