Hey everyone, I just wanted to share an interesting observation I’ve had with my Echo (Alexa) device. Recently, when I tell it to turn on or off my SmartThings integrated lights, it does so but makes a tone/beep instead of the verbal “Okay” we used to hear. At first, I was a bit puzzled, but I think this might be getting ready for the Amazon Dot to be released, which I’ve read has a very small (cellular phone sized) speaker. Having the tone instead of the verbal confirmation may be better suited for those of us who are pre-ordering the Dot, like me, simply for home automation purposes.
I plan on putting one in the living room and one in the bedroom to be able to use voice commands for the SmartThings controlled lights in those areas. It’s exciting to think about how this could enhance my daily routine, making it even more seamless!
That said, I’m also curious if others have noticed this change or if it’s just my Echo acting up. I’ve checked everything and it seems to work properly for everything else, so I’m hoping it’s just a minor adjustment as Amazon prepares for the Dot’s release.
Overall, I’m really looking forward to this transition and seeing how it integrates into my smart home setup. If anyone else has similar experiences or thoughts, I’d love to hear them!
