Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience with integrating my Echo Dot 5 with Fire TV. While the device works perfectly for controlling the TV manually or via voice commands for specific content, I noticed an issue when trying to open apps directly through voice commands. For example, saying, ‘Alexa, open YouTube,’ resulted in a generic search within the apps and games section rather than launching the app directly. This was a bit frustrating since I saw others having no issues with the same setup.
I started by checking the most common solutions: updating both the Fire TV and Alexa apps, resetting the Echo Dot, and even re-pairing the devices. Unfortunately, none of these steps resolved the issue. I then reached out to Amazon support, and they suggested checking the Fire TV’s firmware, which was already up to date.
After some digging, I stumbled upon a workaround that involved creating a custom routine using Alexa’s automation feature. By linking the voice command to a specific action on Fire TV, I managed to get the desired behavior. It wasn’t a perfect solution, but it worked for my use case.
This experience taught me the importance of exploring all automation features when dealing with integration issues. I hope sharing this might help someone else who’s facing a similar problem. If anyone has a more straightforward solution, I’d love to hear about it!
