Echo Show Connectivity Issues and Solutions

Hello everyone, I recently encountered some connectivity issues with my Amazon Echo Show, and I thought I’d share my experience and the steps I took to resolve them. Hopefully, this can help others facing similar problems.

The Problem

I noticed that my Echo Show was having trouble connecting to the internet. It would occasionally stutter and fail to respond to voice commands. After some troubleshooting, I realized that the issue wasn’t with my router or network connection, as both were showing strong signals. However, the Echo Show itself seemed to be the problem.

What I Tried

  1. Rebooting the Router: I started with the basics—rebooting my router. While this fixed some temporary issues, it didn’t resolve the underlying problem.
  2. Unplugging and Restarting the Echo Show: I unplugged the device and waited a few minutes before plugging it back in. This didn’t help either.
  3. System Reset: I decided to perform a factory reset on the Echo Show. After the reset, I tried setting it up again, but I encountered an error message: “Unexpected Error. Sorry, we are unable to reach Amazon at this time.” This was frustrating, especially since I had just reset the device.
  4. Sidewalk Decline: I noticed that the setup process asked about Sidewalk. I declined it both times, and eventually, the installation seemed to complete successfully. However, the Echo Show was still slow to respond to routines and certain commands.

The Solution

After some research, I found that the issue might be related to how the Echo Show handles network connections after a reset. I decided to try a different approach:

  1. Manual Network Configuration: Instead of letting the Echo Show automatically detect my network, I manually entered my Wi-Fi credentials during setup. This seemed to make a difference.
  2. Disabling Sidewalk Again: I made sure to decline Sidewalk again during the setup process.
  3. Clearing Cached Data: I read that clearing the device’s cache might help. I accessed the settings on the Echo Show and cleared any stored network data.
  4. Rebooting the Device Again: After these steps, I unplugged the Echo Show once more and waited for a few minutes before restarting it.

The Results

To my relief, the Echo Show started working much better. The response times improved significantly, and it no longer showed the error message. While it’s still not perfect—occasionally it still stutters when processing complex commands—it’s much more reliable now.

Tips for Others

If you’re experiencing similar issues with your Echo Show or any other smart speaker, here are some tips:

  • Always try manual network configuration if automatic setup fails.
  • Clear any cached data or settings on the device.
  • Ensure that you’re declining any additional services like Sidewalk during setup, especially if you’re not using them.
  • Don’t hesitate to reach out to Amazon support if the problem persists. They were helpful when I contacted them.

I hope this helps someone else out there struggling with connectivity issues on their Echo Show. Happy troubleshooting! :headphones::sparkles:
