Effective IP Address Management for Smart Home Devices

Hello everyone, I wanted to share my experience with managing IP addresses for my smart home devices. After recently adding a new APC UPS to my network, I faced some challenges with manual IP address configuration. I successfully changed the IP address, but encountered some unexpected issues during the process. Here’s what I learned and how I resolved it:

First, I logged in to the APC UPS and changed the IP address to my preferred setting. I was warned that a reboot would be necessary, which I found a bit inconvenient. I decided to wait until the next day to perform a planned shutdown of my servers and a full power-down of the UPS. However, upon reconnecting, I noticed that the IP address settings weren’t applied as expected.

After some research, I discovered that the reboot process I thought was sufficient wasn’t enough. I managed to connect via the serial port and found that the manual IP settings were still active, but the device wasn’t responding as anticipated. This led me to explore the configuration parameters more deeply.

I realized that the main_mode_repetition and channel_map_repetition settings were crucial for ensuring the device functioned correctly. By adjusting these parameters, I was able to stabilize the IP address configuration and ensure consistent performance. This experience taught me the importance of understanding all configuration settings, even those that seem less critical at first glance.

I hope this helps anyone else who might be dealing with similar issues. If you have any questions or additional insights, please feel free to share them! Happy networking everyone! :rocket:
