Effective Z-Wave Device Inclusion and Exclusion Tips

I recently faced some challenges with Z-Wave device inclusion and exclusion, and I wanted to share my experiences and some tips that might help others avoid frustration. First, I tried including a new Z-Wave Plus device, but it didn’t seem to work properly. After some research, I discovered that placing the device close to the Homey hub (<1m) significantly improved the inclusion process. This was a game-changer for me!

Another important tip is to reset all devices before inclusion, regardless of whether they’re new or used. I found that starting the exclusion mode on Homey made this process much smoother. It’s also crucial to ensure that if an inclusion fails, you should exclude the device first before trying again. This prevents issues like half-included devices or unknown devices appearing in the list.

I also learned that sometimes devices might not fully integrate if they were previously included on a different gateway. Resetting and re-including them seemed to resolve this. Additionally, using the Homey app to include devices, provided the relevant app is installed and supports the device, is another reliable method.

Overall, these steps have made my Z-Wave setup much more reliable. I hope these tips help others avoid some of the common pitfalls!
