I wanted to share my recent experience setting up an 8x8 HDMI matrix using Hubitat. The goal was to automate the switching of inputs and outputs based on Alexa routines. Initially, I was overwhelmed by the complexity of setting up individual rules for each television output. Manually configuring each rule seemed tedious, and I was concerned about the time it would take to get everything working smoothly.
After some research, I discovered the rule cloning feature in Hubitat, which turned out to be a game-changer. Instead of creating each rule from scratch, I could clone an existing rule and modify it for each television output. This approach saved me hours of work and reduced the frustration of repetitive tasks.
The process involved setting up one rule per television output and using conditional statements to determine the input based on the activated switch. However, without rule cloning, this would have been a daunting task. The ability to clone rules simplified the setup significantly, allowing me to focus on refining the automation rather than getting bogged down by manual configurations.
I am truly grateful for the implementation of this feature. It not only streamlined the setup process but also made maintaining and updating the system much more manageable. This experience has reinforced my appreciation for the flexibility and power of Hubitat in handling complex automation projects.
