EGX 150 to Symmetra MW RS-485 Connection Guide

Hey everyone, I’m reaching out to get some clarity on connecting my EGX 150 to a Symmetra MW using an RS-485 interface. I’ve got the hardware set up, but I’m a bit confused about the exact pin configurations needed for this connection. Let me share what I’ve figured out so far and see if anyone can shed some light on this.

From what I understand, the EGX 150 uses an RJ45 port for RS-485 communication, while the Symmetra MW expects a standard RS-485 connection. The challenge here is mapping the correct pins from the EGX 150’s RJ45 port to the Symmetra MW’s RS-485 interface. I’ve attached a diagram of both devices’ connections for reference.

Here’s what I’ve pieced together:

  • EGX 150 RJ45 Pins:

    • Pin 1: TD+
    • Pin 2: TD-
    • Pin 3: RD+
    • Pin 4: RD-
    • Pins 5-8: Unused
  • Symmetra MW RS-485 Pins:

    • Pin A: RX+
    • Pin B: RX-
    • Pin C: TX+
    • Pin D: TX-

I’m assuming a direct connection where TD+ connects to TX+, TD- to TX-, RD+ to RX+, and RD- to RX-. However, I’m not entirely sure if this is the correct pin mapping. Has anyone successfully made this connection before? If so, could you share your pin configuration?

One thing I’m particularly concerned about is ensuring proper grounding to avoid any communication issues or potential damage to the equipment. I’ve also heard that using shielded cables can help prevent interference, but I’m not sure how that factors into the pin configuration.

If anyone has experience with this specific setup or knows of a reliable pin mapping guide, I’d greatly appreciate your insights. Let’s collaborate to get this working smoothly!

Thanks in advance for your help, and I look forward to hearing from you all. Happy tinkering! :rocket:
