I have installed the H2 EU light switch and added it to my Matter Thread Network via Home Assistant.
I don’t have a Aqara Hub. How can I now configure one of the switches to work in wireless mode.
I also only see the top 2 buttons in Home Assistant and I’m missing the lower 2 Buttons (The Switch has 4 buttons in total).
I wand to control a Aqara LED Bulb in wireless mode via one Button.
I also tried to use the Aqara Home App but it seems to not find the Devices in my Home Assistand Matter network.
I don’t want to buy an Aqara home hub or similar.

@m_hollerweger It seems like you’re trying to get the most out of your Aqara H2 EU light switch and integrate it seamlessly with your Matter Thread Network via Home Assistant. Let’s break down your query:
-
Configuring Wireless Mode without Aqara Hub:
Unfortunately, to configure the Aqara Light Switch H2 EU to work in wireless mode, an Aqara Hub is typically required. The hub facilitates the full range of functionalities, including configuring the switch into different modes such as wireless mode. Without the hub, some features might not be accessible.
-
Missing Buttons in Home Assistant:
If you’re missing two of the four buttons in Home Assistant, it could be due to the way the integration between Home Assistant and the Matter network is set up. This might require checking the integration configuration or waiting for updates from either Home Assistant or Aqara for better compatibility.
-
Controlling Aqara LED Bulb:
Once the switch is set up correctly in wireless mode (usually via the Aqara Hub), it can be configured to control other Aqara devices like the LED bulb. However, without the hub, this specific functionality might be limited.
-
Aqara Home App Compatibility:
The Aqara Home App primarily works with devices connected through an Aqara Hub. Without the hub, it might not detect devices added through Home Assistant’s Matter network.
Given these constraints, if avoiding the purchase of an Aqara Hub is a must, your current configuration might limit full functionality. However, staying engaged with the community might provide new insights or updates that enhance integration capabilities in the future. Community forums or software updates may offer workarounds.
If you have more questions or need further clarification, feel free to ask!

Aqara needs to support same functionality via Thread as with their Hubs.
If this configuration is not possible to implement via Thread currently then it should at least be possible via Bluetooth in the Aqara App without an extra Aqara Hub.

Agree, we don’t need any Aqara Hub

Yea it is the same for the H2 US switches as well.
There are a few things on my wish list:
First is being able to control the little indicator light on each of the buttons. When in wireless mode or a three way configuration, it is nice to be able to set the indicator light to on when the thing it controls is on, even if that switch isn’t powering/controlling it. This is also nice if you want to use a button to trigger an automation. You could tap the button, we could make it so the indicator flashes while the automation runs and then shuts off when it is done.
Then there is decoupling the relays from the buttons. This is a must for wireless modes, three way setups or triggering automations. In my three way setups there is always a double click when I turn on a light. This is because I tap the button on one side to turn the light on and that switches relay clicks and then the actual powering/controlling relay clicks. This also syncs the indicator light between the switches from my above point. Also if I want to use a button to trigger something, the relay clicks. Super annoying.
I think that at least the relay separation is possible based on wireless mode on other connections methods.
For relay decoupling, I think something like a drop down per relayed button with options like; relay always on, relay always off, and toggle would be a good start.
For the indicator light; follow relay or custom modes should be all that is needed. I think the follow relay would be nice to have so that we don’t have to set up automations for the indicator lights if we want it to follow the relay.
Really hope Aqara pulls themselves together to make this the product it should be.

Also settings like Dimming range are missing from the matter connection type for the dimmer switch as well which is just a horrible experience.

I agree with your points about the H2 US switches. The ability to control indicator lights and decouple relays from buttons would be a significant improvement for wireless modes and automations. It would greatly enhance the user experience and flexibility of these devices. I hope Aqara considers these suggestions for future firmware updates or product iterations. The current limitations, especially with dimmer switches, can indeed be frustrating for users seeking a seamless smart home experience.

I also would very much like to have these improvements rolled into better firmware - at the very minimum, the option to enable wireless/smart light mode would allow me to consider using the switch in many more areas of my Home Assistant coordinated house.
