Enhancing Backup Efficiency with OneDrive Integration

As a homeowner deeply invested in smart technology, I’ve been exploring ways to optimize my home automation setup. One area I’ve been focusing on lately is backup management, particularly using the Microsoft OneDrive integration within Home Assistant (HA). I recently discovered the new backup feature in HA, which allows me to store backups directly in my OneDrive cloud space. This has been incredibly handy for keeping my configurations safe and accessible. However, I’ve noticed that older backups remain in my OneDrive for an extended period, taking up valuable storage space. Currently, these backups go into the trash folder for at least 30 days before being permanently deleted, which isn’t ideal for someone with limited cloud storage like me.

I came across the Graph API documentation and noticed there’s a method for permanently deleting files without sending them to the recycle bin. This seems like a perfect solution to streamline my backup process. I’d love to see an option added to the HA-OneDrive integration that allows users to choose whether to permanently delete older backups or keep them in the recycle bin. This feature would not only save storage space but also make the backup management process more efficient.

If anyone has implemented a similar workaround or has suggestions on how to automate this process, I’d be thrilled to hear about it! Let’s keep the conversation going and explore ways to make our smart homes even smarter.
