Enhancing Device Management with Custom Sorting

Hello fellow smart home enthusiasts! I’ve been diving into optimizing my device management within Hubitat, and I came across an interesting challenge that I thought I’d share with you all.

As many of you might know, I have a fairly extensive setup with over 100 devices. This includes everything from smart cameras to thermostats, and even some custom-built gadgets. One feature I’ve been longing for is the ability to sort devices not just by their labels, but also by a secondary technical name. This would allow me to organize my devices based on specific attributes like manufacturer, type, or exact location—a huge help for troubleshooting and maintenance.

Currently, while I can search for both device labels and names, the inability to sort by device name limits the efficiency of my setup. I’ve tried a few workarounds, like manually categorizing devices, but it’s not as seamless as I’d hoped. I wonder if others have faced similar challenges or have found innovative solutions to this.

For instance, I’ve heard some users mention using third-party apps or scripts to achieve more granular control over their devices. Has anyone successfully implemented such a solution within Hubitat? Or perhaps there’s a feature request in the works that could address this need?

I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Whether you’ve encountered this issue or have tips for optimizing device management, I’m all ears! Let’s brainstorm together and see how we can make our smart home setups even smarter.
