After setting up my SmartThings hub, I realized that my current lighting setup wasn’t cutting it for productivity and comfort. Here’s what I’ve considered and what I’m planning to try next.
Monitor Light Bar: I’ve heard great things about monitor light bars for reducing glare and improving visibility. They seem like a solid upgrade compared to my current desk and floor lamps. Plus, the ability to control them via SmartThings sounds like a huge plus. I’m curious to see if they truly make a difference in overall lighting quality. Does anyone have recommendations for models that work seamlessly with SmartThings?
Backlights/Bias Lighting: I’ve also been looking into backlight strips or bias lighting to enhance my monitor’s viewing experience. I’m wondering if adding a backlight would complement my existing setup or if it’s something I could do without. Should I aim for both a light bar and a backlight for optimal results?
Ceiling Lamp: Installing a ceiling lamp above my workstation is another idea I’m exploring. It would provide more ambient light and reduce shadows. However, wiring is a concern since there are no existing lamp sockets. I’m considering consulting an electrician or looking into plug-and-play solutions. Has anyone tackled a similar project?
Uplight: An uplight next to my desk could add some nice ambient lighting, spreading light upwards for a softer glow. It might be a good way to enhance the overall atmosphere without being too harsh.
Color Temperature: I’ve been experimenting with different color temperatures. My current setup uses 6000K bulbs, which are great during the day but too harsh in the evening. I’m leaning towards integrating bulbs with tunable white features to adjust the warmth throughout the day. The WiZ Tunable White bulb I have for the pendant lamp is a good start, but I’d like to expand this to other lights.
Room Dimensions: The room is about 4m x 3.40m, so I need something that can adequately illuminate the space without being overwhelming. I’m trying to strike a balance between task lighting and ambient lighting.
