Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience setting up a multi-tiered safety system for my pool, especially with kids around. It’s been a bit of a learning curve, but I’m excited to see how everything comes together!
I started by installing a fence with locks and motion sensors, which I found really effective. But I wanted to add another layer of security with smart cameras. I came across Frigate, which is amazing for motion detection. I set it up on my Raspberry Pi and integrated it with MQTT and Hubitat using some custom code I found online. The notifications are spot on, and I love how customizable it is.
However, I’m stuck on adding an arm/disarm functionality like the HSM app. I tried using a Custom Monitoring Rule, but it doesn’t quite fit since it’s meant for static sensors. I was thinking maybe using the rule engine or creating a dashboard button, but I’m not sure how to tie it all together. Any tips would be appreciated!
On another note, I’ve been exploring the ESPHome config for my light effects. I want my light to flicker when a button is pressed, but I keep getting errors. The code seems right, but I must be missing something. Has anyone successfully added custom effects to their scripts without extra automations in HA?
Lastly, I’m curious about others’ experiences with integrating multiple brands. I’ve got a mix of devices, and it’s been a challenge getting them all to play nicely. Any best practices or tools that have made this easier for you?
