Excited about the FP300 – outdoor use ideas?

Hi everyone,

The announcement of the FP300 Presence Multi-Sensor is really exciting — I’ve been hoping for a more advanced sensor like this to come to HomeKit for a while. Great to see Aqara pushing forward with mmWave tech!

I’m curious though — would it be possible to use the FP300 in combination with outdoor systems like:

  • Smart awnings (to retract when no one is outside or during bad weather)
  • Garden watering systems (to avoid watering when people are present or during gatherings)

I know it’s not specifically designed for outdoor use, but maybe it could be placed in a covered patio or shed overlooking a space?

Also wondering:

  • Are there any plans for Aqara to develop garden or outdoor automation products like these?
  • Or do you recommend specific vendors that work well with Aqara + Apple HomeKit?

Would love to hear what others are planning to do with the FP300 — any creative use cases welcome!

Thanks in advance!

Hello @aqara160 , I think that Fp300 is better to use indoors, outdoors it can be used under a canopy but it is at your own risk. This is my opinion. I hope in the future there will be more products for the rod and garden and I think that work on these products is underway.

This is exactly my use case for FP300. I’m using a ThirdReality outdoor wireless motion sensor and it simply is just too unstable with it’s detection as well as range.
I’m hoping that the new FP300 can replace this and provide a solid monitor.

Edit: spelling

Do we know what the IP rating is for the FP300? If it is indeed somewhat designed to be used outside.

Hello
This information is not declared by the manufacturer, perhaps it does not have IP protection.

“No condensation” confirms it would not be really suited to put outside. Then maybe a bathroom with shower is also a bit tricky on the longterm?

I use FP2 in the bathroom and have no problems

I just need to switch my outdoor lights for the walkway and hope to fit the fp300 under the mailbox at the gate. That way I can cover it a bit.

Perhaps someone will create a 3d printed waterproof cover.

I thing I’m going to use it for blind spots where the FP2’s aren’t able to see.

well, even if it has IP rating, I will still get it another waterproof cover (probably someone will make it)

I am going to replace the PIR senor in the bathroom.

I’m interested I have multiple products

I’m hoping to use outdoors so that detection of an unauthorized person on our deck at certain times will trigger sprinklers to come on and spray them. Anyone done something like this?

I like the way that you are thinking. . .

I wish I had an outdoor solution for the South Carolina weather.
