Starting my adventure into home automation has been an exhilarating experience!
I’m in the process of building my dream smart home, and I’ve decided to go with Vera as the hub. My initial setup includes 2 door locks from Kwikset, 5 GE light switches, a Russound CA66 with Apple Express sources, and 3 Nexus 7 tablets for interface control. I’m also considering adding Aeon sensors for temperature and motion monitoring, and maybe even integrating a DSC security system. The possibilities are endless! One challenge I encountered was with the API integration for my Tado thermostats. I was thrilled when I finally managed to display the temperatures in my CCU, but it took some research and community support to get there. It’s amazing how a problem can turn into a learning opportunity!I’m also exploring the idea of using Pi-Hole to block telemetry from devices, which I think is crucial for privacy. I’ve set up several Gravity lists and custom rules to block ads and trackers, which has significantly improved my network’s security. As I continue to tweak my system, I’m excited about the potential to expand further. Whether it’s adding more sensors or integrating new devices, each step brings me closer to my goal of a seamless smart home. I can’t wait to share more updates and learn from others’ experiences!
Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other navigate this fascinating world of home automation!
