I’ve been diving into the world of home automation with OpenHAB, and it’s been an incredible journey!
From setting up smart lighting to integrating various sensors, there’s so much potential to create a seamless and efficient home environment.
One of my favorite projects has been configuring the Sonoff Temp/Humidity sensors across my home. It’s amazing how these small devices can provide such valuable insights into my living spaces. I’ve even managed to set one up in a sheltered outdoor area to monitor the outside temperature—fingers crossed it holds up through the seasons! ![]()
Light control has been another area of exploration. I’ve mixed Philips Hue, Philips WiFi, and Wemo devices, though I’m planning to replace the Wemo with Sonoff switches for better integration. The ability to automate lights based on motion sensors and schedules has transformed how I experience my home at night. ![]()
Security-wise, I’ve installed a few outside motion sensor cameras and door/window sensors. It’s reassuring to have a layer of protection while being able to monitor everything remotely through my iPhone. The idea of adding a doorbell/camera/voice system in the future is thrilling—it would complete the smart home experience! ![]()
I’ve also been experimenting with OpenHAB’s scripting capabilities to create custom interfaces and automate tasks that weren’t possible with Alexa. It’s empowering to design a system that truly fits my lifestyle rather than conforming to predefined limitations. ![]()
Looking ahead, I’m excited about the possibility of automating blinds and implementing zone-specific HVAC controls. The more I explore, the more I realize how much smarter my home can become! ![]()
This adventure has been one of the most enjoyable and rewarding projects I’ve undertaken in ages. The community support and the endless possibilities make it all worthwhile. Here’s to many more innovations and discoveries! ![]()
