Exciting New Smart Home Devices and Tips for Integration

I’m thrilled to share some of the latest additions to my smart home setup and some tips that might help others integrate their devices more smoothly! :tada:

First, I recently got my hands on the Aeotec 3-in-1 Door/Window Sensor. It’s a fantastic device—40% smaller than previous models and with an impressive 3-year battery life! The combination of magnetic contact, dry contact relay, and tilt sensor makes it incredibly versatile. I’ve already set it up to monitor my garage door and it’s working like a charm. Highly recommend this for anyone looking to enhance their home security or automation setup!

On the topic of automation, I’ve been experimenting with integrating my smart home system with health monitoring. Specifically, I’ve been looking into managing my wife’s Type 1 Diabetes using Home Assistant. I created a template sensor to track her glucose levels in real-time and generate ‘Time in Range’ graphs. It’s been a bit of a learning curve, but seeing the data visualized so clearly has been incredibly helpful. If anyone has tips on improving this setup or integrating it with other health metrics, I’d love to hear them!

Another area I’ve been diving into is MQTT setup, especially with Synology DSM7. I migrated my Home Assistant instance from a Raspberry Pi to my Synology NAS and it’s been a breeze so far. However, getting Mosquitto to work outside of the host was a bit tricky. I had to adjust the listener configuration and ensure proper permissions were set. If anyone else is facing issues with Mosquitto on Synology, feel free to reach out—I’d be happy to share my configuration details!

I also wanted to touch on the topic of smart locks. I’m currently researching options for a non-standard door thickness (2 inches). It’s been a bit challenging to find a lock that fits perfectly, but I’ve come across some promising options from Schlage and Kwikset that seem to accommodate thicker doors. If anyone has firsthand experience with these locks, I’d love to hear about your experiences!

Lastly, I wanted to share a fun project I’m working on—a Star Wars NYE celebration using Govee Curtain Lights 2. It’s been a blast customizing the light shows to match the movie marathon theme. If anyone has creative ideas for integrating lights with movie nights, I’m all ears!

Overall, the journey of integrating these devices has been both challenging and rewarding. I’m excited to continue exploring new possibilities and sharing my findings with the community. Happy smart home tinkering everyone! :rocket:
