Hey everyone! I wanted to share my recent experience setting up a smart lighting system in my home. It’s been a fascinating journey, and I thought I’d walk through some of the highlights and lessons learned along the way. 
First off, I decided to go with a mix of Zigbee and Wi-Fi based devices to cover different areas of my house. Zigbee for the main lights and switches, and Wi-Fi for some outdoor floodlights that I wanted to keep separate for better reliability. The integration with Home Assistant has been seamless, and I’m really impressed with how well everything communicates. 
One of the standout features I’ve implemented is a motion-activated nightlight system in my hallway. Using a combination of a motion sensor and a dimmable LED strip, it automatically adjusts the brightness based on whether someone is passing by or not. It’s been incredibly handy, especially during late-night trips to the bathroom. Plus, the dimming feature ensures it doesn’t disrupt sleep patterns. 
I also set up a room-specific lighting profile using Home Assistant’s scenes functionality. For example, my living room now has preset modes like Movie Night, Reading, and Party Mode. Each mode adjusts the color temperature and brightness to suit the activity, which has really elevated my home entertainment experience. 
However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. I encountered a few hiccups along the way, particularly with getting some of the Zigbee devices to consistently communicate with the coordinator. After some research, I realized it was a matter of placement and signal strength. Moving the coordinator to a central location and ensuring all devices were within range solved the issue. 
Another thing I’d like to highlight is the template sensor integration I set up to track energy usage. It’s been a great way to monitor how much power my lighting setup consumes, and it’s motivated me to optimize my usage further. I’m looking forward to experimenting with more advanced automation rules in the future.
