As a long-time user of Arlo cameras, I’ve been thoroughly impressed with their performance and reliability. My setup includes two Arlo Q cameras (VMC3040r6), which provide a free 7-day rolling period of saved clips—a feature I’ve come to rely on. However, recently, I decided to enhance my system by adding an Arlo Video Doorbell (AVD4001-100NAS). This addition required me to update to the new Arlo app on both my phone and my girlfriend’s phone, who also has access to our cameras.
While the update process was smooth, I couldn’t help but wonder if it might disrupt any of the features I’ve grown accustomed to. For instance, would the free 7-day clip storage still be available, or would I lose access to my girlfriend’s viewing privileges? These concerns led me to explore the subscription options more closely.
I discovered that there’s a subscription available for just the doorbell, which was perfect for my needs. After setting it up, I was relieved to find that none of my existing features were compromised. The free 7-day clip storage for my Arlo Q cameras remained intact, and my girlfriend’s access stayed unchanged. I could still live stream from all cameras simultaneously, receive notifications for detected movement or sound, and arm/disarm all devices as usual.
This experience taught me that integrating new devices into an existing system doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By taking the time to research and understand the subscription options, I was able to enhance my smart home setup without sacrificing any of the functionality I’ve come to depend on.
If you’re considering adding an Arlo Video Doorbell to your setup, I’d recommend exploring the subscription options carefully. You might find, as I did, that it’s a seamless way to expand your system while maintaining all the features you love. Happy smart home tinkering! ![]()
