Exploring BLE and Motion Sensor Integration for Smarter Automation

Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and insights. I recently set up a BLE sensor for presence detection, and while it works great, I’ve noticed that it triggers automations before I actually enter the room. The range is pretty large, around 30 feet, which I guess is both a blessing and a curse!

I’ve been thinking about how to make this more accurate. Maybe incorporating a motion sensor as a secondary condition could help. That way, the automation would only trigger when both the BLE sensor detects my presence and the motion sensor picks up movement in the room. I’ve been brainstorming some ideas, but I’m not entirely sure how to set this up. Any thoughts or tips from the community would be super helpful!

On a related note, I’ve also been experimenting with template sensors to enhance my automation logic. For instance, I created a sensor that checks if there’s been recent motion in the room. If there hasn’t been any motion in the last 180 seconds, it sets a state to false, which then affects other automations. This has been a fun way to get more granular control over my smart home setup.

I’d love to hear how others are combining different sensors and conditions to create more reliable and efficient automations. Maybe there are some clever tricks I haven’t thought of yet! Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other out as we navigate the exciting world of smart home tech.
