Exploring Custom Dashboards and Device Integration Tips

Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of custom dashboards and device integration lately, and I thought I’d share some of my experiences and questions with you all.

First off, I came across this amazing custom dashboard for OpenHAB using the REST API. It’s based on a fixed grid system and fills the entire screen, which looks incredibly sleek. The user mentioned that pressing a dimmer item opens up a slider, and switches toggle items on and off. The whole dashboard is configured using a single JSON file, which sounds super efficient. They even provided a GitHub repository for anyone interested in contributing or using it. I’m really curious about how the new theming engine works with pure CSS—it sounds like it allows for much finer control over the dashboard’s appearance. I’d love to hear if anyone else has experimented with this or similar setups!

On another note, I’ve been trying to integrate some new devices into my setup and hit a bit of a snag. Specifically, I’m working with Wyze cameras and noticed that the night vision feature isn’t functioning as expected, even after cleaning the lens. The images provided show some unusual behavior, and I’m not quite sure what’s causing it. Has anyone else encountered this issue or found a workaround? I’d appreciate any insights or troubleshooting tips!

Additionally, I’ve been exploring the idea of creating a flash briefing for Alexa that pulls information directly from OpenHAB. For example, I’d love for Alexa to report the current weather, temperature, and who’s home—all data that’s already stored in my OpenHAB system. I have the Echo connected to OpenHAB via the official skill for controlling lights, but I’m not sure how to extend this to create a custom flash briefing. If anyone has experience with this or knows of any resources or examples, I’d be thrilled to hear about them!

Lastly, I’ve been thinking about simplifying the control of my garage doors. I have a system with multiple doors, and while the current setup works, it’s a bit cumbersome for less tech-savvy users. I’m wondering if there’s a more streamlined app or method that combines the open/close functionality with a simple button press, eliminating the need to navigate through multiple menus. The SmartThings app seems powerful, but I’m hoping there’s a more user-friendly alternative out there.

I’d love to hear your thoughts, experiences, and any tips you might have on these topics! Happy experimenting, everyone!
