Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home audio and wanted to share my experiences and some tips I’ve picked up along the way. One thing that’s been on my mind lately is how to play my own MP3s and M4As on my Google speakers. I’ve got a collection of music I’ve digitized from old CDs, and I’d love to enjoy them through my various Google speakers without relying on subscription services.
I’ve experimented with grouping my speakers, like the kitchen Nest Hub, fireplace speaker, and sunroom speaker, to create a seamless audio experience throughout my home. However, I’ve hit a bit of a snag when it comes to playing my own music files. I tried uploading them to YouTube Music, but it doesn’t seem to be the right fit for this purpose. I was hoping someone in the community might have a workaround or a clever solution for broadcasting these files through my speaker groups.
Another interesting project I’ve been working on is optimizing my lighting setup. I’ve got a motion sensor on my porch that triggers the porch light, but I’ve noticed it sometimes gets false triggers from our cat. I’m looking into ways to make the system more robust, maybe by ignoring short-duration triggers or integrating it with our car’s presence sensors. If the car’s presence sensor detects someone arriving, the light should stay on for 10 minutes, regardless of the cat’s antics.
On a different note, I’ve also been exploring the latest updates to my smart devices. I upgraded my thermostat firmware recently, and it’s been a breeze to use. The new features have made temperature control more intuitive. I’d love to hear others’ experiences with firmware updates and how they’ve improved their setups.
If anyone has tips on custom music playback, robust lighting automation, or firmware optimization, I’d be thrilled to hear your insights! Let’s keep the discussion flowing and help each other make the most of our smart homes. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experiences!
