Exploring Google Assistant with OpenHAB Cloud

Hi everyone, I’m diving into the world of smart home automation and I’m curious about integrating Google Assistant with my own OpenHAB cloud setup. I’ve been exploring how to make this work seamlessly, but I’m hitting a few bumps along the way. Here’s what I’ve discovered so far:

First off, I’ve managed to get Google Assistant working with my devices, but I’m wondering if hosting my own OpenHAB cloud server is feasible. I’ve read some positive feedback from other users, but I’m not entirely sure how to proceed. Is there anyone out there who has successfully set this up? Any tips or tricks would be invaluable!

I’ve also been experimenting with MQTT and MAP transformations to bridge the gap between different devices. For instance, I’ve got a switch that communicates via MQTT with values ‘0’ and ‘1’, but OpenHAB expects ‘ON’ and ‘OFF’. Using MAP has helped convert these values, but I’m facing an issue where changes in OpenHAB don’t reflect back on the MQTT side. I’ve double-checked my channel configurations, but nothing seems to resolve it. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Another area I’m exploring is camera integration. I’ve got Blink cameras that work perfectly in the Blink app, but I’m struggling to get them to display properly in Alexa or on my Echo Show 10. It’s frustrating because everything checks out with Blink support, but Alexa just can’t seem to load the feeds. I’ve tried cycling devices, resetting skills, and even reinstalling apps, but the issue persists. If anyone has encountered this or knows a workaround, I’d love to hear about it!

Lastly, I’ve stumbled upon a mystery Z-Wave switch in my setup. It’s labeled as being in the living room, but I’ve never installed one there. It’s functioning normally, but I’m puzzled about its origin. I’ve tried locating it by listening for clicks, but no luck so far. I’d hate to just remove it without understanding what it is. Has anyone else dealt with something like this before?

This journey into smart home automation is both exciting and challenging. I’m eager to connect more devices and streamline my setup, but I could really use some guidance from the community. Thanks in advance for any advice or experiences you’re willing to share!
