Hey everyone! I wanted to share my recent experience setting up a Google Nest Cam 1080p (2nd Gen) and configuring Hass.io on my home network. It’s been a journey filled with learning and excitement, and I’d love to hear your thoughts or tips!
First, the Google Nest Cam:
I’ve been using this camera for a while now, and it’s been a great addition to my home security setup. The installation was straightforward, and the motion detection and recording features work perfectly. However, I ran into a bit of a snag with the audible alerts on my phone. At first, I didn’t receive any notifications, even though everything seemed to be set up correctly. I went through all the troubleshooting steps—checking notifications, rebooting devices, reinstalling the app—but nothing worked. After some research, I realized it was a simple setting adjustment on my phone’s notification settings. Once that was fixed, the alerts started coming through perfectly!
Now, Hass.io:
I’ve been wanting to dive into Home Assistant for a while, and setting up Hass.io on a subdomain was my first big project. It was a bit intimidating at first, especially with all the port forwarding and DNS configurations, but I managed to get it working after a few tries. I used a virtual server on my Windows PC and followed some excellent guides online. The key was ensuring that the base URL and port forwarding were correctly set up. Now, I can access my Hass.io dashboard seamlessly from anywhere!
A Few Tips:
- Patience is key when dealing with network configurations. Double-check every setting!
- Community resources are invaluable. Forums like this have been a lifesaver for troubleshooting.
- Don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re stuck. Someone else has likely faced the same issue!
What’s Next?
I’m excited to explore more integrations with my existing devices, like my Echo Dots and Wyze Cameras. I also want to dive deeper into automations and see how I can make my home even smarter!
If anyone has tips or experiences to share, I’d love to hear them! Happy tinkering! ![]()
