Exploring Govee H5179 with Alexa Automation

Hi everyone! I wanted to share my experience with the Govee H5179 thermometer and how I integrated it with Alexa to create a smart automation for my greenhouse. It’s been a fun project, and I hope it might inspire others to explore similar setups!

Initially, I was drawn to the Govee H5179 because of its sleek design and reliable temperature and humidity readings. Setting it up was straightforward—just a matter of placing it in the greenhouse and letting it sync with my Alexa devices. I was thrilled when Alexa started providing accurate readings when I asked, ‘What’s the temperature in the greenhouse?’

But I wanted to take it a step further. My goal was to automate the watering system in the greenhouse based on temperature. Specifically, I wanted the sprinklers to turn on if the temperature exceeded a certain threshold. I envisioned this as a way to maintain optimal growing conditions without constant manual intervention.

Here’s where the challenge came in. While Alexa recognizes the Govee H5179 as a device for providing readings, it wasn’t immediately clear how to incorporate it into a routine that controls another device, like my Alexa-controlled water valve. After some research and trial and error, I discovered that creating a custom routine with conditions based on the sensor’s readings was the key.

I set up a routine where Alexa checks the temperature every hour. If it’s above 85°F, it triggers the water valve to activate for a set duration. This has been a game-changer for maintaining the right environment in the greenhouse, especially during the hotter months.

I’d love to hear from others who have successfully integrated their Govee sensors into smart routines. What creative uses have you found for your sensors? Any tips or tricks to share would be greatly appreciated!

Happy automating! :star2:
