Hey everyone, I wanted to share some of my recent experiences with HACS and Z-Wave performance in my smart home setup. It’s been quite a journey, but I’ve learned a lot along the way!
First off, I’ve been using HACS for a while now, and while it’s a fantastic tool, I’ve encountered a few hiccups. The most frustrating one has been the repo ID duplication issue. I’ve had to manually edit the HACS repository file multiple times across my 10 HA instances. It’s a bit of a pain, but I’ve managed to keep things running smoothly by backing up my custom integrations locally. I’m curious if anyone else has found a more efficient way to handle this or prevent the file from being updated automatically.
On the Z-Wave front, I’ve been experimenting with my HUSBZB-1 setup. Despite having the stick centrally located and using extenders, I’m still seeing some pretty high RTT times on my second-hop devices. It’s a bit puzzling because my Z-Wave graph shows everything within two hops of the controller. I’ve tried re-healing the network several times without luck. If anyone has tips on improving performance, especially in a multi-story home with concrete walls, I’d love to hear them!
Another thing I’ve been working on is automating notifications for my Zigbee devices. I set up a rule for my Aqara smart switch to toggle the main light with a single click. While it works, there’s a slight delay—about 2 seconds—which isn’t ideal. I’d appreciate any suggestions on optimizing this rule for faster response times.
Overall, I’m really enjoying the flexibility and power of my smart home setup. It’s amazing how these devices can be integrated and customized to fit specific needs. I’d love to hear about everyone else’s experiences, especially any tips or tricks you’ve picked up along the way. Let’s keep the learning and sharing going!
Cheers,
