Hi everyone, I’m really excited to dive into the world of smart home automation and see how Home Assistant can integrate with my Apple ecosystem. I’ve been working on some DIY projects using Arduino and MySensors, and I’ve got a collection of smart devices like Philips Hue lights, Netatmo, and Withings Home. The idea of controlling all these from my iPhone or iMac sounds amazing, but I’m curious about the best way to set this up.
I’ve heard that Home Assistant is a powerful tool, but I’m wondering if it can handle notifications through iCloud, similar to how Netatmo or Withings apps work. For instance, getting alerts when the doorbell rings or if the temperature in my living room goes out of range. If Home Assistant isn’t the right fit, are there other solutions that might work better with Apple devices?
I came across an app called “Home - Smart Home Automation” by Matthias Hochgatterer. It looks really sleek but is a bit pricey. I’m curious if it can work alongside Home Assistant or if they might conflict. Has anyone had success combining these two?
On a lighter note, I’ve been experimenting with setting up presence detection using lights. My plan was to use an input_boolean that turns true if any light in the house is on, whether it’s via Hue, an app, or directly from IHC. The goal is to automate some routines based on whether someone is home. However, I’m still figuring out how to ensure it turns off only when all lights are off. I’ve started drafting some code snippets, but I’d love to hear if anyone has a more efficient approach or any tips to make this smoother.
It’s been a fun journey so far, but there’s definitely a learning curve. I’m eager to hear your experiences and advice on integrating Apple devices with Home Assistant and setting up smart routines. Let’s keep the conversation flowing!
