Exploring Home Assistant's Random Unreachable Issues and Zigbee Device Oddities

Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into some interesting challenges with my Home Assistant setup and Zigbee devices. It’s been quite the learning experience, and I thought I’d share my journey and some insights I’ve gained along the way. Hopefully, this can help others who might be facing similar issues or inspire some discussions!

The Random Unreachable Issue

First off, I’ve been experiencing this odd issue where my Home Assistant server becomes unreachable randomly. It’s been happening for the past few weeks, and it’s pretty frustrating. Sometimes it’s multiple times a day, and other times it’s once every couple of days. When it happens, I can hear the NUC running, but nothing shows up on the monitor when I connect it via HDMI. The server is running on an Intel NUC PC with Home Assistant OS installed directly via Ubuntu. I’ve tried a clean install, but the issue persists.

I’ve been looking into the logs, and there’s a DNS server error that caught my attention. I’m not entirely sure if that’s related, but it’s something I’m keeping an eye on. I’ve also heard about the Home Assistant Observer, so during the next crash, I’ll be using that to gather more information. If anyone has tips on what else I should monitor during these crashes, I’d greatly appreciate it!

Zigbee Devices Acting Up

On the Zigbee front, I’ve been experiencing some strange behavior with my devices. Mostly, it’s the Sengled bulbs that are showing up as ON in the app, even though they’re not actually on. This has happened with multiple bulbs, and it’s a bit perplexing. The bulbs are using the stock Edge driver, and I have over 50 Zigbee devices, including repeaters. My hub is a V3, and I’ve got 161 devices and 23 Edge drivers installed. It’s a decent setup, so I’m not sure why this is happening.

Another odd occurrence is with a Tuya Zigbee blind motor. It’s opening up without any trigger from an automation. This has happened around 5pm and in the middle of the night on separate occasions. My only automation for the blind is to open at sunrise and close at sunset. I’m not sure if this is a hardware issue or something related to the firmware or drivers.

The Search for Solutions

I’ve been doing some research and reached out to the community for help. For the Home Assistant issue, I’m hoping to get some guidance on how to further diagnose the problem. Maybe there’s a specific log or setting I should be looking at. For the Zigbee devices, I’m curious if others have experienced similar issues or if there’s a known fix or workaround.

I’ve also been thinking about expanding my setup with some Miflora sensors. I’ve heard great things about them, but I’m a bit confused about the Bluetooth support. The ones I’ve found seem to be discontinued, and the new HHCC version mentions “no Bluetooth” in the images, even though the seller description says Bluetooth is supported. I’m not sure how to proceed with getting these sensors integrated with my setup. If anyone has experience with these sensors or knows a reliable source, I’d love to hear about it!

Wrapping Up

It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster trying to troubleshoot these issues, but I’m determined to figure them out. I’m grateful for the supportive community here, and I’m hopeful that with some more research and collaboration, I can get everything running smoothly again. If anyone has any tips, tricks, or experiences to share, please feel free to chime in!
