Exploring Home Automation with Google Assistant and Zigbee Devices

Hi everyone,

I’ve been diving into the world of home automation lately, and I wanted to share my experiences so far. I’ve been using Google Assistant to control my smart devices, and it’s been a fantastic journey. However, there’s been one thing that’s been on my mind—understanding how scenes work across different platforms.

I’ve noticed that some of my flows in Homey appear as scenes in Google Assistant, but others don’t. For instance, my “All on” and “Mood light” flows show up as scenes with the prefix “Flow,” but my other flows don’t. I’ve been using virtual switches to trigger my flows, and it’s worked well, but I’m curious if there’s a way to launch flows directly without relying on virtual devices.

Another thing I’ve been exploring is Zigbee devices. I’ve been using a mix of Zigbee sensors and switches, and I’ve been impressed with their reliability. However, I’ve come across a minor issue—my door/window sensors have a consistent 3-5 minute delay in notifications. I’m not sure why this happens, especially since my smart lock, which is also connected via Zigbee, doesn’t have this delay. I’d love to hear if anyone else has experienced this or has any suggestions.

On the positive side, I’ve been really happy with my smart lock setup. It’s been a game-changer for my morning routine. I’ve also been experimenting with scene automation, like setting my lights to turn on when I unlock my door. It’s these small conveniences that make home automation so enjoyable.

I’d love to hear from others who are using Google Assistant and Zigbee devices. Have you encountered similar issues? What tips or tricks have you picked up along the way? I’m always looking for ways to optimize my setup and make my home even smarter!

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Best,
