Exploring Motion Sensors for Door Lock Automation

Hey everyone, I’m diving into the world of smart home automation and have a question that I hope you can help me with. I’ve been using a contact sensor on my entry door to automatically lock the door when it closes, and it’s been working like a charm. However, lately, I’ve noticed some reliability issues with the contact sensor—it keeps dropping off the Zigbee network, forcing me to manually rediscover it.

This got me thinking: what if I switch to using a motion sensor instead? I have a bunch of unused Iris motion sensors lying around, and I’m curious if they can be repurposed for this task. The idea is to have the motion sensor detect movement near the door and trigger the lock to engage when the door closes.

I’m not entirely sure how to set this up, though. I know that motion sensors are typically used for detecting movement in a space, but can they be configured to trigger actions based on door state? I’d love to hear from anyone who has successfully used a motion sensor in a similar setup. What steps did you take? Did you encounter any challenges, and how did you overcome them?

On a related note, I’ve also been exploring the latest iOS app update and noticed some changes in the device management section. One feature that’s missing is the ability to delete devices directly from the edit menu. I’ve tried reinstalling the app, but the issue persists. Has anyone else experienced this, and do you know of any workarounds?

As I continue to tinker with my smart home setup, I’m constantly amazed by the creativity and problem-solving skills of this community. Your insights and experiences are invaluable, and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on these topics!
