I’ve been diving into MQTT integration for my home automation setup, and it’s been a fascinating journey!
I’ve always been a fan of openHAB, but adding MQTT as a centralized message bus has taken my system to the next level. It’s amazing how seamless it is to connect different devices and systems without worrying about compatibility issues. ![]()
One of the most exciting projects I’ve undertaken is converting my Z-Wave devices to MQTT using Zwave2Mqtt. It’s been a bit challenging, especially figuring out the best way to handle all 65 nodes, but the potential benefits are huge!
I’m curious to hear others’ experiences with this setup—does it really simplify things, or am I just getting carried away? ![]()
Another area I’ve been exploring is integrating older devices that don’t natively support MQTT. For instance, I have an older camera that only understands HTTP/Cgi commands. I’ve been experimenting with creating automations that translate MQTT messages into the necessary HTTP commands. It’s a bit of a workaround, but it’s working surprisingly well! ![]()
I’d love to hear from others who have embraced MQTT in their setups. What tips or tricks have you found invaluable? Have you encountered any unexpected challenges, and how did you overcome them? Let’s keep the conversation flowing! ![]()
