As a long-time user of Hubitat, I’ve always been impressed by the platform’s ability to handle complex automations. The recent release of Rule 5.1 with its Sticky Triggers and enhanced automation features has taken things to the next level! ![]()
For those who haven’t explored it yet, the Sticky Triggers feature is a game-changer. It allows you to set a delay before a trigger activates, which is perfect for avoiding false positives. For example, I’ve set up a rule where my security cameras only start recording if a door remains open for more than 2 minutes. This prevents unnecessary recordings caused by quick trips in and out of the house.

Another feature I’ve been experimenting with is the All Devices for Triggers option. Previously, only ‘Any’ was available, but now you can set a trigger to fire only when all selected devices meet the condition. This is great for scenarios where multiple devices need to be in a specific state before an action is taken. For instance, I’ve set up my lights to turn off only when both the front door and the garage door are closed. ![]()

The Enhanced Time Since Event Condition is also a big win. It allows for more precise time-based automations. I’ve used it to set up a routine where my coffee maker starts brewing 10 minutes before my alarm goes off, ensuring I’m always ready for the day. ![]()

One thing I’m particularly excited about is the ability to disable individual actions within a rule. This makes troubleshooting much easier. You can temporarily disable parts of a rule without affecting the entire workflow. It’s like having a non-destructive way to test changes! ![]()
For anyone looking to migrate from Basic Rules to Rule 5.1, the import feature is a huge time-saver. I’ve successfully imported a few of my old rules and they work seamlessly in the new system. It’s a smooth transition that allows you to take full advantage of the new features without starting from scratch. ![]()
I’d love to hear from others who’ve started using these new features. How have you incorporated them into your automations? What creative use cases have you come up with? Let’s share our experiences and continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible with Hubitat! ![]()
