Hey everyone, I’ve been exploring some cool features in OpenHAB and wanted to share my experiences and questions with you all. Let’s dive in!
OpenHAB Notifications and Custom Widgets
I’ve been using the OpenHAB Cloud Connector add-on to send notifications to my devices. It’s been working great for alerts like “Someone rang your door!” However, I’m trying to take it a step further by playing a specific sound, like doorbell.mp3, on my registered phone when a notification is received. Unfortunately, I’ve hit a snag—currently, the sound plays in the web browser instead of on the phone. Does anyone know how to make this happen? I’d also love to have the notification open a custom widget with a clickable camera image when clicked. Any advice or workarounds would be super helpful!
Smart Lighting Automation
On the lighting front, I’ve been working on automating my Osram RT5/6 and BR19 lights in my living room, kitchen, and hallway. The goal is to have them turn on at 100% brightness at sunrise and dim to 50% at sunset, with a smooth 5-minute fade. I’ve set up some basic rules, but the fade functionality isn’t quite there yet. Plus, I want the lights to override these settings during specific scenes like Dinner Time or TV Time. I’ve heard about using virtual dimmers to track light levels, but I’m not entirely sure how to implement this. Any tips or solutions would be greatly appreciated!
Firmware Updates and Stability
Lastly, I wanted to touch on firmware updates. I’ve had some mixed experiences with updates—sometimes they introduce new bugs, which can be frustrating. I understand the importance of keeping devices updated for security, but it’s a bit overwhelming to constantly adapt to new issues. I’d love to hear how others manage their firmware updates and maintain stability in their setups.
That’s it for now! I’d love to hear your thoughts, experiences, and any solutions you might have for these challenges. Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other out!
Cheers,
