Exploring Outdoor Door Sensors and Their Compatibility

Recently, I’ve been exploring options for outdoor door sensors to enhance security around my garden gate. After some research, I came across the Honeywell 5816OD sensor, which seems like a solid choice for its reliability and ease of installation. However, I’m curious about its compatibility with my existing smart home setup, particularly with rfxcom. Does anyone have experience integrating these two? I’d love to hear about any successes or challenges others have faced!

While on the topic of outdoor sensors, I’ve also been looking into ZigBee/ZWave-enabled power strips for controlling USB devices. Unfortunately, most options I’ve found are either WiFi-based or designed for US/CN sockets. If anyone knows of a UK-compatible solution, I’d be grateful for the recommendation. The ability to automate USB devices based on set timers would be a fantastic addition to my setup!

Another intriguing topic I’ve stumbled upon is the Notion Sensor System. Their multi-sensor devices seem versatile, offering functionality for door monitoring, smoke detection, and leak sensing. While they rely on a proprietary protocol and cloud integration, which might be a drawback for some, the potential for seamless automation without a hub is appealing. I’d love to hear from anyone who’s tried these sensors and their integration with platforms like SmartThings or HomeKit.

Lastly, I’ve been experimenting with creating custom widgets in OpenHAB. It’s a learning curve, but seeing the results come together is rewarding. One challenge I encountered was customizing names for items dynamically within widgets. If anyone has tips on how to achieve this or improve code readability, I’d appreciate the insight!

Let’s keep the conversation flowing—sharing experiences and tips always helps us refine our smart home setups!
