Exploring Pyranometer Integration for Solar Energy Monitoring

Hi everyone, I’m really excited to share my journey with integrating a Pyranometer into my Home Assistant setup. As a bit of a HA enthusiast with two installations and over 100 devices, I’ve always been curious about optimizing my solar energy usage. My background in renewable energy engineering sparked this interest, and I wanted to dive deeper into measuring solar radiation accurately.

I stumbled upon the Pyranometer, a device specifically designed for solar installations, which provides the precise data needed for solar strategy calculations. However, finding a Pyranometer with Home Assistant connectivity proved challenging. Most models are expensive and lack standard integrations like Tuya or Sonoff. I considered using an ESP32 to create a custom integration but haven’t found any existing solutions in the HA community.

This seems like a gap that could be filled, especially with HA’s growing focus on solar and energy management. I’d love to explore building a Pyranometer setup and integrating it into HA to monitor solar data and refine my energy strategies. Here are my questions:

  1. Has anyone successfully integrated a Pyranometer into their HA setup?
  2. Are there any specific Pyranometers you’d recommend for this purpose?
  3. Are there any existing integrations or methods to connect a Pyranometer to HA?
  4. Has anyone tackled this integration or has advice to share?

I’m eager to hear from anyone who has experience or insights on this topic. Let’s collaborate to bring this functionality to the HA community! Cheers, David
