I’ve been diving into the world of home automation lately, and I must say, it’s been an exciting journey! One of the projects I’ve been working on involves using a Raspberry Pi Zero WH with an IR camera to detect mailbox activity. It’s a small setup but incredibly effective. The Pi Zero is paired with a 5MP camera and IR LEDs, all neatly tucked into a protective case. The whole thing runs on a 24V power supply, which I had to switch to after encountering some issues with voltage fluctuations on a 5V setup. It’s amazing how a little tweaking can make such a difference!
Another area I’ve been exploring is MQTT integration with OpenHAB. I’ve set up a bridge to connect my heating boiler’s data, which sends information like water temperature and burner status. Mapping the “on” and “off” states to switch items has been a bit of a puzzle, but I’ve managed to get it working using transformation patterns and maps. It’s such a relief when everything clicks into place!
I’d love to hear from others who’ve tackled similar projects or have tips for optimizing MQTT configurations. Whether it’s sensor integration, automation triggers, or just sharing the joy of getting a new setup working, the community insights are invaluable. Keep the ideas flowing! ![]()
