Exploring Ring Doorbell and Philips Hue Automation

Hey everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of home automation, and I’m trying to set up something that could really make a difference for my family. We’re a large household, and unfortunately, my partner and two children are hard of hearing, which means they rely heavily on hearing aids during the day. I wanted to find a way to help them without relying solely on auditory cues, and that’s where the Ring Doorbell and Philips Hue lights come into play.

Here’s what I’m aiming to achieve: when someone presses the doorbell, I want a group of Philips Hue bulbs to flash blue for about 15 seconds. The tricky part is what happens after those 15 seconds. If the light was already off, I want it to stay off. If it was on, I want it to return to its original color or, as a fallback, switch back to white. It sounds simple, but getting this to work seamlessly has been a bit of a challenge.

I’ve tried using scenes and automations within Home Assistant, but it either leaves the light on in blue or turns it off entirely after the scene runs. I’ve been looking into scripting to see if this level of control is even possible. If anyone has experience with this or knows of a workaround, I’d be incredibly grateful for the insight!

This project is close to my heart, and I’m determined to figure it out. It’s amazing how technology can help create a more inclusive environment for everyone in the household. I’m hopeful that with a bit more tweaking, I can get this automation just right. Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions you might have!
