Hey everyone! I’m new to the Shelly ecosystem and have been diving into setting up my devices. I recently connected two Shelly Plus 1 units and activated the Alexa skill through the cloud. The setup process was smooth, but I ran into an interesting challenge when it came to naming my devices for Alexa integration.
I configured my devices as ‘GH.Ventilator’ and ‘GH.Licht’ (GH standing for Gartenhaus), which makes sense for me to identify them in my network. However, when trying to control them via Alexa, the default names like ‘GH.Ventilator’ just don’t sound very natural. It feels a bit clunky to say, ‘Hey Alexa, turn on GH.Ventilator.’
I started wondering if there’s a way to assign custom ‘nicknames’ or aliases specifically for Alexa. This would make controlling my devices much more seamless and enjoyable. I tried searching the forums and documentation, but I couldn’t find a straightforward solution. Has anyone else encountered this and found a workaround or a feature request that’s in the works?
In the meantime, I’m curious if others have creative ways to name their Shelly devices to make them more Alexa-friendly. Maybe using shorter names or more descriptive terms? I’d love to hear your tips and tricks!
Looking forward to your insights and experiences. Let’s make our Shelly devices as user-friendly as possible! ![]()
