Exploring Smart Air Freshener Solutions

Hi everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of smart air fresheners and thought I’d share my findings and experiences. If you’re someone who loves a good fragrance at home, this might interest you.

I’ve tested various types of air fresheners—plug-in, spray motion detectors, timer sprays, and manual sprays. One thing I dislike about battery-powered devices is the uncertainty of when the batteries will run out or the fragrance bottle needs refilling. That’s why I prefer plug-in devices since they eliminate the hassle of batteries. Plus, I can connect them to a smart plug for remote control. However, I wish I could adjust the intensity remotely.

Recently, I came across a spray dispenser that looks like a vase and blends well with home decor. This dispenser uses a large 240ml bottle, which means less frequent refilling. According to the manufacturer, it should last up to 60 days on a 36-minute timer setting. I’ve done some testing and managed to increase the interval to 240 minutes. While I’m still working on controlling it without the internal timer, this setup currently provides 6 sprays per day.

I can monitor the battery level, trigger a manual spray, count spray events, and set delays between sprays. All these features are controlled via SmartThings, which offers a range of capabilities like momentary actions, switches, battery monitoring, and actuators. This dispenser can be moved anywhere since it runs on batteries and doesn’t need a plug.

With a smart app, I can set up events to trigger the dispenser, such as when a door opens or motion is detected. This versatility makes it a great addition to any smart home setup. I’m excited to continue refining this project and explore other potential uses, like irrigation devices. Stay tuned for more updates!
