Exploring Smart Automation and Energy Management in My Home

Hi everyone! :star2: I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and it’s been a fascinating journey. I wanted to share some of my experiences and insights, as well as a few questions I’ve come across during my exploration. One of the projects I’ve been working on is integrating a counter and slider system to manage my Tesla charger’s amperage based on solar power availability. The idea is pretty straightforward: when solar production increases, the charger should adjust its amperage accordingly, and vice versa. It’s all about optimizing energy usage and reducing grid dependency. However, getting the counter and slider to work seamlessly together has been a bit of a puzzle. I’ve set up an automation that increments or decrements the counter based on solar power thresholds, but I’m still figuring out how to ensure the slider responds smoothly in real-time. Any tips or experiences from others who’ve tackled similar projects would be greatly appreciated! Another area I’ve been experimenting with is visualizing energy consumption through card mods. I’ve been using mini-graph cards to track power usage across various appliances like my refrigerator, washing machine, and even my holiday lights. It’s been eye-opening to see how much energy each device consumes over time. However, I’ve noticed that when a device is turned off, the graph sometimes gets stuck on the last value, stretching the line to the left instead of reflecting the actual usage pattern. This makes it a bit tricky to get an accurate picture of energy usage trends. Has anyone else encountered this behavior, and if so, how did you work around it? Speaking of visualizations, I’ve also been exploring ways to customize my dashboards to make them more visually appealing and user-friendly. I’ve tried adding background images to certain cards, but I’ve run into some issues where the images don’t display correctly on all devices, especially on my tablet. It’s frustrating because the setup works perfectly on my desktop, but on my tablet, I end up seeing a gray screen with a cross instead of the image. I’m wondering if there’s a specific configuration or workaround that can help resolve this issue. On a lighter note, I’ve also been enjoying the community-driven aspects of this forum. It’s amazing to see how many creative and innovative ideas people come up with for their smart homes. Whether it’s automating garage doors, setting up custom lighting scenes, or even creating DIY digital picture frames, there’s always something inspiring to discover. It’s these kinds of shared experiences that make being part of this community so rewarding. If anyone has any advice, tips, or stories related to these topics, I’d love to hear them! Let’s keep the conversation flowing and continue to learn from each other’s experiences. :rocket:
